Protecting Dashboards and Charts from AI
Use Protect from AI to mark a dashboard or chart so the AI agent can never modify it, even when the relevant tool permission is set to Always approved. This gives admins a per-item lock independent of global tool settings.
Required Permissions
Only an Admin role with the global data scope can set or clear AI protection on a dashboard or chart. Protection cannot be set or cleared through the AI agent, including in an Admin's own chat session.
Protecting a Dashboard
- Open the dashboard you want to protect.
- Open the dashboard menu (the ... or gear icon next to the dashboard name).
- Select Protect from AI.
A Protected from AI badge appears next to the dashboard name to confirm the change.
Protecting a Chart
- Open the chart you want to protect.
- Open the chart menu (the ... icon on the chart).
- Select Protect from AI.
A lock icon appears on the chart when the AI chat panel is open.
Removing AI Protection
- Open the protected dashboard or chart.
- Open the dashboard or chart menu.
- Select Remove AI Protection.
The badge or lock icon is removed, and the AI agent can modify the item again.
How the Agent Responds to Protected Items
When a user asks the AI agent to modify a protected dashboard or chart, the agent refuses the change before showing an approval card. No approval card is offered for any write operation on a protected item. Instead, the agent offers to create a duplicate of the dashboard or a new chart with the same configuration.
When the agent lists dashboards or charts, it shows whether each item is protected.
Activity Log
Axonius records a log entry each time an admin sets or removes AI protection on a dashboard or chart.
Limitations
The following items are never protected automatically, regardless of whether the source dashboard or chart is protected:
- A new chart created by the agent
- A duplicate of a protected dashboard or chart
- An export of a protected dashboard or chart
- An import of a dashboard or chart
Protection of saved queries, enforcement sets, and the saved queries that a protected chart uses is planned for a future release.
