Managing Virtual Network Inspectors

Use the Virtual Network Inspectors page to deploy, configure, and manage virtual network inspection appliances from a central location in Axonius.

This page provides a centralized view of all virtual network inspector appliances connected to your environment.

From this page, you can:

  • View all existing virtual network inspector appliances.
  • Add a new appliance.
  • Generate and download a provisioning token to deploy it.
  • Regenerate a provisioning token for any appliance that is still in Pending status.
  • Remove an appliance listing from the table.

Network Inspectors Page

To open the Network Inspectors page:

  1. From the top right corner of any page, click . The Settings page opens.
  2. In the Categories/Subcategories pane of the Settings page, expand System, and select Virtual Network Inspectors.

The page displays all virtual network inspector appliances connected to your environment in a table with the following columns:

  • Name — The name assigned to the appliance.
  • Site — The site associated with the appliance.
  • Location — The physical or logical location of the appliance.
  • Type — The appliance type (for example: On-Prem, Virtual).
  • Status — The current activation state of the appliance. See Appliance statuses.

Appliance Statuses

  • Pending — The provisioning token was generated but hasn't been deployed on the appliance yet.
  • Activated — The appliance is active and reporting to Axonius.

Add a Virtual Network Inspector

To add a virtual network inspector:

  1. On the Virtual Network Inspectors page, click Add New.
  2. In the drawer that opens, fill in the following fields:
    • Appliance Name — A unique name for the appliance (letters and numbers only).
    • Site — The site where the appliance is deployed.
    • Location — The physical or logical location of the appliance.
  3. Click Generate Token. Axonius generates a provisioning file and downloads it to your machine. The new appliance appears in the table with a Pending status.

    After the token downloads, a confirmation message appears: <Appliance Name> added — deploy the provisioning token on the appliance to activate it.
  4. Deploy the downloaded provisioning file on the appliance to activate it. When activation is complete, the status updates to Activated.

Regenerate a Provisioning Token

If a provisioning token expires before you deploy it, regenerate a new one for the appliance.

Note

Regenerating a token is available only for appliances with a status of Pending.

To regenerate a token:

  1. On the Virtual Network Inspectors page, hover over the appliance row.
  2. Click Regenerate Token. Axonius generates a new provisioning file and downloads it to your machine.
  3. Deploy the downloaded provisioning file on the appliance to activate it. When activation is complete, the status updates to Activated.

View Appliance Details

To view the configuration of an existing appliance:

  1. On the Virtual Network Inspectors page, click any appliance row.

The configuration form opens in read-only mode, showing the appliance's current settings.


Remove a Network Inspector

Removing an appliance from the table does not delete the underlying virtual machine.

To remove a virtual network inspector:

  1. On the Virtual Network Inspectors page, hover over the appliance row.
  2. Click Remove.
  3. In the confirmation dialog, review the notice and click Save.

The appliance is removed from the Network Inspectors table.
