Understanding Axonius AI Agent Credits and Metering
Use this page to understand how Axonius AI consumes credits, how credits are allocated and managed, and what happens when a credit balance runs out.
Simple Metering Model
A credit is the billing unit for Axonius AI features. Each credit-consuming feature uses a fixed number of credits per unit of work, so consumption is predictable and does not depend on model pricing tiers.
The Axonius Asset Cloud includes three credit-consuming features:
- AI Companion: 1 credit per prompt and agent response.
- Scheduled Tasks: 2 credits per execution and notification of a scheduled task.
- AI Workforce: 3 credits per completed Virtual Workforce run.
The Axonius MCP Server does not consume credits.
These rates are the same for every customer. The size of your environment and the complexity of a prompt or task do not change how many credits each feature consumes.
Example credit usage scenarios below:
Uses (1) Credit: Asking the AI Companion "How many Windows servers are missing CrowdStrike?" and viewing the results it provides.
Uses (2) Credits: Creating a Scheduled Tasks automation that shows you critical vulnerabilities on internet-exposed assets every Monday at 08:00.
Uses (3) Credits: Using the Exposure Triage Agent in AI Workforce to flag open findings that clear your ticketing policy, route one ticket per owning team, and allow you to preview the tickets before they go live.
Base Provisioning
Before accessing Axonius AI features, you must opt-in to the use of these tools. Axonius AI will not be enabled by default. Once you opt-in, your account receives credits in two ways:
- Promotional credits are included in your platform subscription at no extra charge. They are allocated in one lump sum, sized by your device tier. Axonius-hosted customers with more than 2,500 devices are eligible.
- Purchased credits add capacity beyond your promotional allocation. Any Axonius-hosted customer with an active Cyber Assets subscription can purchase credits.
Promotional credits are always used first. Purchased credits are used only after your promotional allocation is fully used.
The AI Agent is not turned on automatically. Your promotional credits appear in the dashboard after an admin accepts the terms and activates the AI Agent.
Promotional Credits
Promotional credits give you access to Axonius AI features at launch. They are free of charge, and no order or SKU is needed to receive them.
- Eligibility: SaaS-hosted customers with more than 2,500 devices receive promotional credits.
- Allocation: Credits are allocated to your account in one lump sum, sized by your device tier. The allocation stays fixed for the whole promotional period.
- Activation: Axonius AI features are not turned on automatically. Your promotional credits appear in the dashboard after a user accepts the terms and activates the AI Agent. Admins can then distribute the credits among users.
- Expiration: Promotional credits expire on December 31, 2026. Unused promotional credits do not roll over and cannot be recovered.
After the promotional period ends, customers will continue to receive credits as part of their Axonius subscription.
Purchased Credits
You can purchase additional credits at any time. Purchased credits are sold in bundles of 1,000.
- Eligibility: Any SaaS-hosted customer with an active Cyber Assets subscription can purchase credits.
- Co-termination: Purchased credits are co-termed to your annual contract date. They expire at the end of your annual contract term, regardless of the date you purchase them.
- Carryover: Purchased credits carry over from month to month within your annual term. Unused credits do not carry into the next term.
Because purchased credits expire at the end of your annual term, plan purchases around your expected usage. Purchase only the credits you need for the remainder of your current term. Your Axonius account team can help you deterministically forecast how many credits to purchase.
Credit Allocation Modes and Scope
Account-Level Pooling
Admins must manually assign credits to individual users or roles, and each user draws from the account's total credit pool.
- Assign credits: A user cannot use the AI Agent until an admin assigns them credits. Admins decide how many credits each user can use.
- Control purchased credits: Admins choose which users can draw on purchased credits after promotional credits run out. Use this to limit paid consumption to a specific group of users.
In the event that Axonius Support connects to your environment and must use any credit-consuming features, these will not draw down from your total credit pool.
See Managing Your Axonius AI Credits to learn more about managing AI credits and assigning credits by user or by role.
Clock Boundaries and Expiration
Different credit limits reset or expire on different schedules:
- Per-user monthly quotas reset each month.
- Promotional credits expire on December 31, 2026. Unused promotional credits do not roll over and cannot be recovered.
- Purchased credits carry over from month to month and expire at the end of your annual contract term. Unused purchased credits do not carry into the next term.
Purchasing and Scaling Capacity
Credit Top-Ups
Users may purchase additional credits at any time, in bundles of 1,000. There is no limit on the number of bundles. Purchased credits are prepaid and co-termed to your annual contract anniversary.
When sizing a purchase, account for the time left in your annual term. Buy only what you expect to use before the term ends.
Ask your Axonius Account Team for assistance with capacity planning when considering the purchase of additional Axonius AI Credits.
Overage Rules
Axonius AI uses a strict hard cap. There is no automatic overage, and you are never billed in arrears for usage beyond your balance. When your balance reaches zero, the AI Agent stops until more credits are available.
System Behavior at Zero Balance
Zero-Balance Handling
When a limit is reached, Axonius AI will stop accepting prompts:
- User quota reached: When a user reaches 100% of their monthly quota, their message box is disabled.
- Account balance reached: When the account's credit balance reaches zero and no purchased credits are available, Axonius AI stops working for all users.
The rest of the Axonius platform keeps working as usual. Queries, dashboards, enforcements, and the Axonius MCP Server do not depend on AI credits.
Recovery
Account balance: Access to the credit-consuming Axonius AI features returns after additional credits are purchased and loaded into your account. Purchased credits are provisioned through your Axonius account team.
User quota: For individual users, access returns at the monthly reset or as soon as the admin raises the user's limit, assuming the account balance is above zero.
