Your First Chat with Axonius AI --copy
The AI Agent is a conversational assistant built into the Axonius platform. It can query your asset data, build and save queries, create dashboard charts, explain platform concepts, run health checks, and automate certain actions — all through plain-language conversation.
The Axonius AI Agent knows all about Axonius and your data. It can answer questions about how to use Axonius. It can also dive deep into your data and answer many of the questions you need answered. You can chat with the AI agent about your environment. The AI agent can create queries for you and display data in charts. All from natural language prompts.
How to talk to it
Just describe what you want in plain English. You don't need to know query syntax, field names, or where things live in the UI. Examples that work well:
- "How many devices are missing CrowdStrike?"
- "Show me Windows servers last seen more than 30 days ago."
- "Run my data hygiene check."
- "Teach me how queries work."
- "Create a dashboard chart of my devices by OS type."
What Axonius AI can do
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Query & count assets | Devices, users, software, vulnerabilities, SaaS apps |
| Build & save queries | Compile a filter, save it as a reusable saved query |
| Dashboard charts | Create and pin charts from your data answers |
| Health checks | System health, data hygiene, coverage, automation |
| Learn the platform | Guided lessons, concept explanations, tutorials |
| Automate | Create enforcements, tag assets, export CSVs |
| Teach you about Axonius | Ask about features and how they work |
The agent:
- Provides clear explanations — Relies strictly on verified data and explains any gaps if information is missing
- Keeps you in control — Displays a preview first and waits for your explicit approval before applying any changes
- Protects your boundaries — Strictly operates within your assigned data scope
- Translates complex details — Presents all findings and results in clear, plain language
Tips for best results
- Be specific about what you want back — "count" vs "list" vs "break down by OS" all produce different answers
- Name the tool or source when relevant — "devices missing CrowdStrike specifically" is more precise than "devices missing an EDR"
- Follow the chips — the clickable suggestion buttons after each answer are curated next steps, not decoration
- Ask follow-ups freely — the agent remembers the context of the current conversation, so you can refine ("now filter that to just Windows") without repeating yourself

So, let's go...
NoteThe AI agent has the same access you do, so you can use it to explore the same data and functionality as you can.
Let's start your first chat with the Axonius AI agent.
There are two ways to access the AI agent: full screen or in a side pane that stays open no matter where you are in Axonius.
Let's start with the side pane.
At the top of Axonius, click the AI Agent icon: ![]()
It can be found here, next to your user avatar:

The AI Agent pane opens on the right side of Axonius. Again, this pane stays open no matter where you navigate to in Axonius. Except when you open the full-screen AI Agent view. More about full-screen mode later.
The AI Agent displays a few quick sample prompts you may want to use to ask about your environment. Click Show more to see more quick prompts. Let's click on one of them and see the results.
When you click the Agent Versions prompt, the AI Agent starts analyzing it. Some prompts will take longer to answer than others, depending on how much work the agent needs to do. While the agent is still processing, the 3-dot ellipsis will animate. When the AI Agent has an answer, it displays its response in the chat pane.
What a response looks like
First, the "thinking" section appears. Before delivering its answer, the agent displays a progressive list of steps it is taking to build the response. Steps appear one by one as the agent works through your request.
For example, a check on software health might show steps like:
- "Running query for end-of-life software"
- "Checking governance data"
- "Analyzing patch backlog"
This execution plan helps you understand what the agent is doing at each stage.
Expand Show thinking to see the process the AI agent used to develop its answer. It first needed to "understand" the request, then build a query to retrieve assets, segment them, and put it all together.

A full response often includes a text description of the results, as well as charts and tables to present information in an easy-to-use way. You can download charts by clicking on the download icon.
This response also includes Key observations and Recommended next steps. Below the response, the AI agent may show you some prompts to consider under Suggested next steps. You can click on one of those, ask another question in this chat, or start a new chat.

Use the icons below the chat response to rate it or copy it to the clipboard. Your responses help the AI agent improve.
